One of 10 children, Alberts attended Roxborough High School in Philadelphia and worked on boats in Villas, N.J., before deciding to make a career of the Army. He was stationed in Germany before being assigned to Company B of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), in Vietnam. The 28-year-old sergeant died on Aug. 27, 1966. in Quang Tri Province. Alberts was survived by his wife, son, parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
