Memories For This Unit

Best Friends
Dad was the kind to make many friends, so I'm not sure who was his best friend.

Best Moment
Being discharged at the Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Ill on August 18, 1945. Quote, "Take anything you want from me, you can have it all, just let me out of this @*#& army!" end quote.

Worst Moment
Crossing from Tunisia to Sicily at night very sea sick, convoy sailing in storm enroute to D-Day July 11, 1943.

Chain of Command
First Sergeant Foster was the only one he talked about. The man drank way to much! Raised hell every morning during barracks inspection. 1SG riped every one a new one on a daily basis!

Other Memories
1st ESB suffered approximently 500 killed or missing during Exercise Tiger, April 25, 1944. German E-boats attcked the convoy that was part of a moch landing near Slapton Sands, southern England. This was kept secret for 40 years after D-Day in Normandy. It was finally revealed in 1984.
