Casualty Occurrence:  This solider was wounded 05 Sep1967 and then returned to duty. He was then wounded in action again by mortar fragments, on 27 Oct 1967. He was medevaced stateside to Walter Reed Medical Hospital 22 Nov 1967, where he died of his wounds.

POSTED ON 5.10.2018, POSTED BY: WKILLIAN@SMJUHSD.ORG. FINAL MISSION OF PFC BRUCE W. DUDLEY JR. PFC Bruce W. Dudley Jr. was an Infantry Direct Fire Crewman serving with A Troop, 1st Squadron 1st Cavalry, Americal Division. On October 3, 1967, the 1st Cavalry Division launched Operation Wallowa, a campaign to relieve pressure on the U.S. Marines who were fighting a series of heavy engagements along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in South Vietnams northernmost provinces. On the October 27th, while participating in the operation, PFC Dudley was critically injured after he was hit by mortar fragments. He was evacuated to Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington D.C. He died January 25, 1968, from a urinary tract infection caused by paraplegia of the lower extremities, complications secondary to his wounds. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org].

Bruce Wesley Dudley Jr., was drafted into the United States Army on October 7, 1966. He received Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT)at Fort Hood, Texas. The he later was was assigned to the 1st Calvary Division and sent to Vietnam August 29, 1967. He was wounded in action on September 5, 1967 and again on October 27, 1967, while participating in a combat operation and was struck by sniper fire. He was sent to Walter Reed Hospital on November 22, 1967 where he died from his wounds. He is survived by his widow, Katherine Driggers Dudley, West Columbia, South Carolina, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce W. Dudley Sr., Cayce, South Carolina. He was awarded the Purple Heart in October 1967 and again in November 1967.
