POSTED ON 2.12.2018. POSTED BY: WKILLIAN@SMJUHSD.ORG. GROUND CASUALTY
On August 12, 1969, Communist forces shelled and launched ground attacks throughout South Vietnam in the heaviest outbreak of enemy-initiated action in three months. At least sixteen Allied camps were hit. About 20 miles west of An Loc, North Vietnamese Army troops tried to overpower the 1st Cavalry Division’s LZ Becky for the second day in a row. A 50-minute fight, seven miles southeast of Katum, left 59 NVA dead. Sixteen Americans were killed in the engagement and 36 others were wounded.

The lost U.S. personnel included SSGT Samuel Abrams Jr., PFC Greg A. Barker, SP4 Bobby L. Bevard, SGT Thomas W. Carrington, SP4 Fredrick P. Gillen, SP5 Jeremiah M. Hayes Jr., PFC Gary L. Hoskins, PFC Kenney E. Lassiter, SGT Harold G. Miles, SP5 George R. Platter, PFC Garry G. Smith, SSGT George E. Snyder, CPT Donald H. White, SP4 Marion L. Zipp, and CPL Richard J. Zisko. POSTED ON 10.16.2017. POSTED BY: KENNY PULLINS. A#1 FIRST COUSIN. Greg, life with you was too short and the good times ended too soon. Here's looking forward to seeing you on the other side!!

POSTED ON 11.2.2016. GREAT UNCLE. Greg was my great uncle. His brother is my papaw. I wish i could meet Greg. I went to the memorial wall and saw his name.

POSTED ON 8.16.2016. POSTED BY: LORRIE CELIBRAISE BICKNELL. GREG. Crazy in love with this kid in 7th 8th grade. He did the Monkey to the Kinks, "You Really Got Me " at my party and that's all it took. Then my mom caught us making out which was not pretty. I remember it like it was yesterday. But, alas, his heart belonged to cute little Judy Williams. Eventually they both moved on to other people, but they're together again in heaven. Love, Lorrie Celibraise Bicknell.

POSTED ON 6.5.2016. POSTED BY: ART JOSEPH. BEST BUDDIES IN BASIC & AIT TRAINING. Greg and I were best buds in Basic & AIT training. At the end of AIT we were both sent to Vietnam. I went to 7th btn 8th Arty a self-propelled unit & Greg was assigned to the 1st Cav. Our Moms were in touch with each other everyday when Mrs. Barker received the sad news. They decided that I would escort Greg home and I was honored to do so. I will never forgot you "Tex". Until we meet again my friend.

POSTED ON 6.4.2016. MY FRIEND AND HIS SISTER IN LAW. I loved this boy when we went to school together. I loved him when we became family when I married his brother. I mourned this man when I lost him to this war and now and forever I honored him when I named my son after him......miss you till we meet again my brother.
