James Evan Dutton, age 25, of Checotah, OK died in Logar Province, Afghanistan on March 31, 2012 while honorably serving his second tour for the US Army. He was born on Christmas Day, 1986, to James K. and Valerie Dutton. James "Little James" was raised in Weleetka, OK. He was very active in sports, and loved to go camping and fishing and especially enjoyed picking on his sisters. James later moved with his parents to Checotah, OK where he served as a firefighter for the Lotawatah Rural Fire Department and worked for Winkle's Hardware until joining the US Army. Following basic training, James was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, NY where he worked as a firefighter and mechanic. While in Fort Drum, James made many friends and acquired a new nickname, "Jed". In 2008, James had a son, William Tyler Anderson and in 2009, shortly after the birth of his son, James was deployed to Afghanistan. He returned stateside in 2010 and in October of 2011, James was transferred to Fort Bliss, TX. In February of 2012, James was deployed for a second time to Afghanistan. James loved the US Army and planned on long career serving his country. He believed in and loved what he was doing and that is where he wanted to be. James was preceded in death by his sister, Kimberly Ann Dutton; grandfather, James H. Dutton; grandmother, Ruby M. Dutton; and his great grandfather, Sgt. Charles William "CW" Kincannon. James leaves behind his parents, James K. and Step-Mother Trina M. Dutton of Checotah; Mother Valerie Dutton: his young son, William Tyler Anderson of El Paso, TX; sisters, Valarie Hammond and Roxanne Gibson, both of Weleetka, and Stephanie Walker of Oklahoma City; brothers, Derek and Jeremy Johnson, both of Wewoka; special friends, Brittany Brown and daughter, Ally, of Watertown, NY; Jerie-Lynn Woody, mother of William Tyler Anderson, Jacob Rector of Weleetka, Dale McBride of Checotah; his extended family of Army brothers and sisters; as well as many other relatives, friends and loved ones too numerous to mention. James was loved by his friends and family who will dearly miss him. A memorial service will be held Wednesday April 18, 2012, at Fort Bliss, TX. A funeral service for James will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Checotah with Pastor Steve Dennis and Rev. Don Williamson officiating. Interment will be at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Fort Sill Honor Guard. Funeral services are entrusted to Bradley Funeral Service of Muskogee.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Spc. James E. Dutton, 25, of Checotah, Okla., died March 31, in Logar province, Afghanistan.
Dutton was assigned to the 125th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.

He's the only service member in Southern Afghanistan that can fix fire trucks, and if that's not enough, he even goes to some places in Western Afghanistan to fix them,? according to a Feb. 15, 2010, post on the Department of Defense Live blog.
Dutton was a 2006 graduate of WeleetkaHigh School, and he graduated from basic combat training at FortJackson, Columbia, S.C., according to a November 2006 story in the Muskogee Phoenix.
Dutton is the son of James and Trina Dutton, of Checotah, and brother of Roxanne Dutton Gibson, of Weleetka, the newspaper reported.
A Fort Bliss Soldier supporting Operation Enduring Freedom died March 31 in Logar Province, Afghanistan.
Spc. James E. Dutton was assigned to the 125th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss. Dutton, 25, of Checotah, Okla., was an infantryman who entered the Army from Tampa, Fla., January 2011. He was previously stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. Dutton is survived by his wife. A memorial ceremony in honor of this fallen Soldier will be coordinated and announced at a later date.

The family of the Checotah soldier killed in Afghanistan released a statement Tuesday, asking for privacy as they deal with their loss.
Specialist James E. Dutton died Saturday in Logar Province, Afghanistan.
The 25-year-old's death is still under investigation, KTUL.com was told by the Deputy Public Affairs Officer in Fort Bliss, Texas.
Dutton was assigned to the 125th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division there.
He was a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic and went into the Army from Oklahoma City in June of 2006. Dutton was previously stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina & Fort Drum, New York.
According to the Army, the Checotah native was highly decorated, awarded the Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and many more.
