IN CONVOY ON QL19 FROM AN KHE TO PLIEKU, SOUTH VIETNAM
By Bob Dye: On the day Andy was hit we talked for a while before the convoy left. I was the 1st truck in the convoy until they brought his truck down from maintenance. They then put his his truck in front of mine. He said his truck still wasn't running right. So I passed him before we got to the Plieku pass ( the mang yang ). A few mile"s later we were ambushed. His truck took an RPG, and I was wounded in both leg's. I talked to him again briefly at the 71st Evac Hospital in Plieku before our surgeries. He had 75 days, and I had 85 days left in country prior to return to the United States.
