Someone Never Forgoten
George was a great leader but his life was cut short like many others in my unit.George was a kind and helpful man who would go out of his way to help them.George tried being motor sargeant but he didn't like it, so he went back in the field with the troops. George will never be forgoten.

A Note from The Virtual Wall
B Troop, 3/4th Cavalry, lost two men on 28 Feb 1969, SSG Larry B. Curttright to a rocket-propelled grenade and SFC George F. Evans to gunshot wounds.

I remember the day, I was there with you. It all happened so fast. SFC Maxey was really upset, because you were both going on short R&R in a couple of days. The 28th was a bad day for us, and so were the upcoming days to include March 2, 69. We lost a lot of good people in that short time. Just wanted to keep your memory alive, and to let you now that your sacrifice was not in vain and you will not be forgotten. A lot of the old troops are still around, including Cpt Headley, SFC Hollis and Maxey, as well as some of the others. We remember you at each reunion.

"Uncle George"
SSG Evans last served in 2nd plat.,B Troop, 3/4 Cav, 25th Inf Div. At 36, he was older by a decade than any other man in our platoon and the only career soldier. On 2/28/69,in the Boi Loi Woods, while firing from atop his tank, a RPG struck him full in the chest. He was missed
