Here I am in the cupola of my tank during the Blue Force's bold thrust deep behind the Orange Force's lines. Atop the turret next to me is the umpire who helped adjudicate battle-damage Phassessments when we made contact with Orange Force elements. On this occasion I am showing him the grid coordinates I gave to my forward observer, asking for artillery fires on suspected OPFOR positions. Delta Company was at the tip of the spearhead, reinforced with a rifle platoon from the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry (Mechanized), and combat engineer and Vulcan air defense platoons. In all, my column had 16 tanks, nine M113 armored personnel carriers, and four Vulcan tracks. Photo by Colorado Springs "Gazette-Telegraph" reporter Sue McMillin.
