In an effort to recognize members of the battalion who excelled in physical training, LTC Larry Medley created the "Second Tank Stud Board." Members of the battalion who scored a perfect 300 on the PT test, ran the "Horn" (an 8.1 mile loop that included a 1,500 foot change in elevation in less than 59 minutes, or ran a good time in a division-run half-marathon, 20-mile run or marathon qualified for this honor. In addition to getting their names on the "Stud Board," they were given a circular patch to wear on their PT uniform. Those who qualified in more than one event rated a star for each additional event sewn on the patch.
