This tower is at a former border crossing. The road leads to the town of Meinengen. There was an East German Kaserne there and a Soviet Base too.
They told us that when it was announced that the Cold War was over and the Border would be opened at a certain time, the cars were ined up as far as you could see on both sides of the Border.
They also mentioned to us that the first thing many of the East Germans wanted to buy was a new car. They had theirs since the Cold War began.
