Miller and SP4 Robert Cruz were both wounded by fragments from a Chicom hand grenade while we were trying to root a reinforced NVA platoon out of a U-shaped trench line populated with bunkers containing machine guns and RPGs as well as individual foxholes. Shortly after Miller and Cruz were wounded, I was injured when an RPG fired from the other side of the trench line exploded in a berm close to me. In all, my platoon suffered more than a dozen WIAs in that engagement. Fortunately, no one was killed.
