Reflections on T/5 Hedgecoth's US Army Service

 Reflections On My Service

TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, WHAT INFLUENCED HIS/HER DECISION TO JOIN THE ARMY?
Everyone was going to war in 1942 in the US. The whole country was involved in the military effort to defeat the germans & the japs .
IF HE/SHE PARTICIPATED IN ANY MILITARY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING COMBAT, HUMANITARIAN AND PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS, TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, PLEASE DESCRIBE THOSE YOU FEEL WERE THE MOST SIGNIFICANT TO HIM/HER AND, IF LIFE-CHANGING, IN WHAT WAY.
Ken went back to the Philippines with MacArthur via Papaun, New Guinea, & South Philippines
Jungle rot on the feet & terrible jungle fighting for many months.
Health was not good and it shortened his life Dead at age 50 in 1968.
OF ALL THEIR DUTY STATIONS OR ASSIGNMENTS, ARE YOU AWARE OF ANY HE/SHE HAD FONDEST MEMORIES OF AND WHY? WHICH WAS THEIR LEAST FAVORITE?
The fondest memory was of the Filipino People of Subic Bay & coming home through Hawaii.

The least favorite was being strafed by a Jap Zero on a beach in New Guinea . Taking cover behind a small rock and bullets flying on both sides.

In Manila he opened a door and the Jap soldier had the drop on him but a American GI flame thrower ended that standoff.
FROM THEIR ENTIRE MILITARY SERVICE, DESCRIBE ANY PERSONAL MEMORIES, YOU MAY BE AWARE OF, WHICH IMPACTED HIM/HER THE MOST.
Did not talk about the war unless prodded. Very quiet most of the time.
