Reflections on SSG Williams's US Army Service

 Reflections On My Service

PLEASE DESCRIBE WHO OR WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO JOIN THE ARMY.
THE U.S. ARMY TEAM AND ITS COMRADES WAS THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE FOR ME AS WE ARE OUR BROTHERS KEEPER. SOLDIERS ARE A SPECIAL BREED AND REFLECTS GREAT PRIDE FOR THERE SERVICE. CONTACT FROM A GOOD FRIEND FROM 35 YEARS AGO SGT BERNARD WALKER CONVINCED ME TO BECOME A FULL MEMBER. I WAS PREVIOUSLY A TEMPORARY MEMBER UNTIL HE CONTACTED AND EXPRESS HIS PLEASURE WITH THE TWS SITE AND MAKING CONTACT WITH OTHERS WE HAD SERVED WITH.
WHETHER YOU WERE IN THE SERVICE FOR SEVERAL YEARS OR AS A CAREER, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE DIRECTION OR PATH YOU TOOK. WHERE DID YOU GO TO BASIC TRAINING AND WHAT UNITS, BASES OR SQUADRONS WERE YOU ASSIGNED TO? WHAT WAS YOUR REASON FOR LEAVING?
STARTED OUT IN 1970 AS AN 11B FOOT SOLDIER AND MECH INFANTRY. LATER RECLASSIFIED TO THE ADMIN SIDE WHICH RESULTED IN MY HOLDING SVERAL DIFFERENCE MOS'S 71LP6, 71G, 75B SERIES OF GENERAL ADMINISTRATION AND PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION HELPED ME TO IMPROVE MY MARKETABILITY INTO THE CIVILIANS EMPLOYMENT ARENA .
IF YOU PARTICIPATED IN ANY MILITARY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING COMBAT, HUMANITARIAN AND PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS, PLEASE DESCRIBE THOSE WHICH MADE A LASTING IMPACT ON YOU AND, IF LIFE-CHANGING, IN WHAT WAY?
A 1/9TH INFANTRY (MANCHU) DMZ MOST FORWARDED DEPLOYED INFANTRY UNIT IN THE ARMY. VERY LIGHT ENEMY CONTACT DURING PATROL ALONG THE DMZ.

LOTS OF ANTI-TERRORIST OPERATIONS IN EARLY 1970'S EUROPE. CELLS DURING THIS TIME WERE CALLED CRIMINALS BUT THE ACTIVITIES THEN ARE NOW CALLED TERRORIST ACTS.
OF ALL YOUR DUTY STATIONS OR ASSIGNMENTS, WHICH ONE DO YOU HAVE FONDEST MEMORIES OF AND WHY? WHICH WAS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE?
FAVORITE ASSIGNMENT WAS ARMY COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER, AMBERG, FRG. GREAT STAFF AND ALL CIVILIANS 32 FEMALES AND ALL SOCIAL WELFARE PROGRAMS. ITS WAS VERY REWARDING TAKING CARE OF OUT ARMY FAMILIES.

LEAST FAVORITE WAS THE DMZ. NO FREEDOM AND LOTS OF COMBAT PATROLS AND REACTION FORCE TRAINING
FROM YOUR ENTIRE MILITARY SERVICE, DESCRIBE ANY MEMORIES YOU STILL REFLECT BACK ON TO THIS DAY.
PLATOON WALKED INTO MINE FIELD THAT HAD BEEN LAID DURING THE KOREAN CONFLICT. PLATOON SERGEANT WAS KILLED AND A FEW OTHERS WERE WOUNDED. THIS OCCURRED DURING MINE CLEARING OPERATIONS PRIOR TO CHANGING RESPONSIBILTY OF GUARD SITES
