Reflections on SFC Carey's US Army Service

 Reflections On My Service

PLEASE DESCRIBE WHO OR WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO JOIN THE ARMY.
Service to Country
WHETHER YOU WERE IN THE SERVICE FOR SEVERAL YEARS OR AS A CAREER, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE DIRECTION OR PATH YOU TOOK. WHERE DID YOU GO TO BASIC TRAINING AND WHAT UNITS, BASES OR SQUADRONS WERE YOU ASSIGNED TO? WHAT WAS YOUR REASON FOR LEAVING?
Joined as a Lance Missle Crew Member and decided to explore the new Multiple Lanuch Rocket System and became a 13M. Completed a short tour on Recruiting Duty as a Recruiter and became Station Commander. Returned back to MLRS was stationed in Germany and deployed to Desert Storm. Return to Germany to face a draw down and was assigned to Ft Riley. While at Ft Riley completed a packet to become a Career Counselor and was accepted and changed my MOS to 00R which later became 79S, Best Job Ever!
IF YOU PARTICIPATED IN ANY MILITARY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING COMBAT, HUMANITARIAN AND PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS, PLEASE DESCRIBE THOSE WHICH MADE A LASTING IMPACT ON YOU AND, IF LIFE-CHANGING, IN WHAT WAY?
Deployed to Saudi to take part of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I remember the night at Tigris and Euphrates River and also seeing the destruction at the million dollar mile.
FROM YOUR ENTIRE MILITARY SERVICE, DESCRIBE ANY MEMORIES YOU STILL REFLECT BACK ON TO THIS DAY.
The travel to the multiple countries around the world.
WHAT MILITARY ASSOCIATIONS ARE YOU A MEMBER OF, IF ANY? WHAT SPECIFIC BENEFITS DO YOU DERIVE FROM YOUR MEMBERSHIPS?
Disabled American Veterans - Lifetime member
Non-commissioned Officers Assocation - Lifetime member
NGOB
IN WHAT WAYS HAS SERVING IN THE MILITARY INFLUENCED THE WAY YOU HAVE APPROACHED YOUR LIFE AND YOUR CAREER? WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT YOUR TIME IN THE SERVICE?
LDRSHIP
BASED ON YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY JOINED THE ARMY?
Become debt free - payoff everything before exiting the military.

Put money in the bank, Savings.
Start a Roth IRA, NOW.
Become financially smart.

Get representation when filing VA disability claims, (DAV, VFW, Purple Heart, etc...) File for everything, even if you recieve 0%, it is easyier to file for an increase than it is to file a new claim.

Enjoy your life.
