53 years ago was a day that will stay with me forever, My Troop "C" troop was securing a Convoy to Tay nigh South Vietnam and back to Cu Chi on Hwy one, and when we were on our way to CUCHI , we  were hit with a Ambush around GO DAH HA, in the night, as  My Tank was in the Lead, a Enemy was at the age of the Road and Fired a RPG that hit the Front Slope and penetrated to the Inside, my driver got wounded and if he had not drove out of the  Kill Zone I would not be describing what Happened that night,  there were two more wounded on the Tank One who was in the Gunner Seat a Guy that was supposed to take over my Platoon after I would rotate back to the states in September 1968, another guy that was my Loader got hit in the Chin by a sniper, and today you see him you can't tell if he was hit, But After receiving green Tracers out of a ARVIN COMPOUND, Timothy Breen kept loading the main Gun and we Leveled that Compound and The Fighting eased off and we secured a Dust Off for the Wounded so they could be on their way by Choppers To MED EVAC. Also wound ed Capt. Shaffer Track  had been hit with multiple RPG's and The Dryer of that Track Frank Cuff was Wounded, Capt. Shaffer and Lt. Thomas was really hurt whereas Lt. Thomas Lost a Arm and Capt. Shaffer was hit in the Leg with metal that had struck a main artery and he like to have Bled out if it had not been for a few good Medics that saved that whole Crew from Passing on, The Medics were Doc Gearhart, Doc Jones and Doc James, These Guys saves a lot of Troopers during their tour of Duty, Also we Lost three Good Troopers That Night, it was a night that I cannot Forget, there was a night That Troopers Held their Ground until One of our Fellow units from the 3/4 Cav. showed up the next morning. We brought The fourth of July in that night. Even though you did not Know anyone that night, I ask that you Pray for all the ones that lost their Lives during this War, Their Families because they will be missing one of their own This JULY Fourth.  And with a Tear in my Eye, I close, thank you All for Viewing a Time of Young and Old lives in a war that had No Parades when They Returned Home.

I didn't serve with Basil but I was in Nam when he was Kia. Basil Army, me Marines. I attended school with Basil. He was one of a kind. He had no enemies and everyone liked him. He was a flirt to all the girls. He was fun to know for everyone. The Hereford’s are patriots in the best traditions of our country. They not only lost Basil but an older son was one of the fallen in Korea. They deserve our love and respect.

?You are Remembered?
Peace and condolence, to the family and friends. ?He which hath no stomach, to this fight, let him depart. But we in it, shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!! For he today, that sheds his blood with me, shall always be my brother.? Rest in peace brave soldier, you have not been forgotten. (W.Shakespeare) May God Bless you, for your Sacrifice!!!

Not forgotten
Basil, Although we never met, I just want you to know that you are not forgotten. You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for what you believed in. Sleep well my friend, and thank you for protecting the freedoms we have today
