Another year gone since we lost you.
Your friends think of you often, not just this date.
Rest in peace, brother.

Found an old photo today

Found an old photo of you and I and Bill Bond at a car wash for the purpose of buying us some decent tents to camp out in. I smiled as I looked at our "youth" and remembered your outlandish crazy antics that day. Your Dad had you on a short leash to keep us all focused on our job, you were the epitome of being a "free spirit." Your Dad was the best. What a great man and leader he was to all of us.

PFC. TYPE IS KILLED IN VIET NAM

The name of a young Jacksonville soldier, who had left his home here just 2 1/2 weeks ago, was on the latest Viet Nam casualty list released by the Department of Defense.
Army Pfc. Walter J. Type Jr., 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Type Sr. of 4663 Suffolk Ave., died in Viet Nam Tuesday morning, the Defense Department reported.
Type had been caught in an ambush while on duty with the 25th Infantry near Saigon and died of wounds from a rifle grenade.
The young soldier, a graduate of the 1965 class at Ribault Senior High School, left Jacksonville for California and Viet Nam the day after Easter.
His father is a steelworker at Buffalo Tank Corp. Also surviving are two sisters, Yvonne Rose and Betty Jane.

Remembering a Friend

Buddy,
We grew up together in Sherwood Forest- You came by my parents’ house right before you left for 'Nam and we had a few minutes to talk. I think about you often, even after all these years and I wish that you had the opportunity to grow old. Your memory will be with me forever. God Bless You.

Buddy was such a wonderful and special friend to everyone who knew him. We went to high school together. He was good friends with my brother and I
am still good friends with his sister. He was a kind and gentle person and is still missed by everyone who knew him. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Remembering an American Hero
Posted on 4/24/13 - by ccarter02@earthlink.net

Dear PFC Walter John Type Jr, sir As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned. May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say 'thank you'; for America, and for those who love you. With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir Curt Carter

You taught me to laugh
We were in the Boy Scouts/Explorer Scouts together, and your dad was our scout leader. You kept us all laughing and we always wondered what you would DO next, to get us all in trouble. At my surprise 16th birthday party, you danced like a wild man from Borneo. I laugh still when I picture you acting like the wild man you always were. Your dad was my hero too, I miss you both so very much. Your memory will be with me forever.

Dear Buddy
Buddy, your passing in Viet Nam has made more of an impact on my life than you would ever had imagined. For years after attending your funeral, I have thought of you and mourned your death. Perhaps I was just a very young girl but the funny memories I have of you, Bill and Johnny still make me smile. I still have a picture of you in mind just as I saw you last. I am proud of you Buddy for you served your Country and gave your life for it but you are so missed. Yours always...Ferne

Gone, but never forgotten
Dearest brother Bud: Thinking of you today, missing you still after so many years. Many Americans say our country was wrong to wage a war in Vietnam. I say this: you entered into military service as a proud son of a father who also served his country. We grew up knowing the importance of patriotism and love for America. You served your country with a passion for preserving the freedom of Americans and others who were fighting for their freedom as well. With all of my heart, thank you for the ultimate sacrifice, which you gave without reserve. Loving you forever, your sister, Betty Jane.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

The Greatest Kid Next Door
Walter, we called him Bud, was the kid
next door. I always think of him in a rhyme we (his Father and I) made. Since I and his father were also called, "Bud" and I had a child at about 1 and 1/2 years old. His dad was a big man, I was the next oldest. So the rhyme went," Big Bud, Little Bud, Bud, and the Baby ". I was Bud's Assistant Scout Master. And Assistant Leader in the Explorers
Bud will always be remembered as the kid next door whose dad was a great neighbor. I lost contact with the family in 1962 when I went into the service, and learned of his death when my daughter, (the baby) told me.
Bud will never really die. And he will always be part of, "Big Bud, little Bud, BUD, and the baby" as long as one of the family lives
