Remembering An American Hero
Posted on 9/1/15 - by Curt Carter ccarter02@earthlink.net
Dear Captain Arthur Tomaschek, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter
Thank you Lt.. The training you gave allowed me to survive RVN

Lt. Tomaschek,
The training you gave while you were commanding the LRRP team, attached to the 3/4 Cav in 1968 made it possible for me to make it back home alive.
Your name is on the wall, as well in the hearts of us that knew you, and fought along side you. To have known you was to respect you as a good leader, a good soldier and a good man.
Some day we will all meet once again.
May you forever rest in peace my brother.
Final Mission of U.S. Army helicopter AH-1G tail number 68-15041
CAPT Arthur Tomaschek and CAPT Larry John 'Klem' Kluever were killed in action from an incident on September 1, 1971 when their aircraft, an AH-1G (tail number 68-15041), exploded into a bunker complex south of FSB Mace. A witness suggested the crash was probably caused by target fixation.
If I should die...remembrances for CAPT. Arthur TOMASCHEK, USA...who made the ultimate sacrifice!!!!

If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to dom something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.
A Note from The Virtual Wall
On 01 Sep 1971 an AH-1G Cobra (tail number 68-15041) from H Troop, 16th Cavalry, failed to pull out after a weapons run against a bunker complex south of Fire Support Base Mace, killing the two crewmen:
CPT Larry J. Kluever, Washington, DC, pilot, and
CPT Arthur Tomaschek, Allentown, PA, copilot.

Art, from the time we met in flight school, you were "Hell on Wheels" and you went down living up to that! You died doing what you loved best and you are missed by all who knew you.

Art was my Ranger Buddy in OCS. The only thing we had in common was that our names were next to each other in the alphabet. He was a Green Beret, I was a Joe College just out of the University of Georgia who was drafted and ended up in OCS. He was a good friend and we were very close. I miss him. He would come by where I was when he was in transit. I visited him at Arlington.

Capt Tomaschek,
I have only good memories of the time we each had a connection with CO.F 75th Rangers. You were a good commander.
A special memory you were the one that told me of my first son's birth after I came in off of a mission.
You fulfilled Gods duties for you, while you were here on earth .Thank you for your service to the country.

You will never be forgotten
I see that you still was messing with that XKE. I don't think you every got it to run. I will remember the days when we took other peoples KP just to make a few extra dollars when we were both enlisted. We had fun hitch hiking to DC for the weekends. I will always remember you and miss you. G-D bless you Art, you were a good friend.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings, Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things. You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung, high in the sunlit silence, hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle flew, and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God. Miss you, buddy
Art , Larry Glasgow and Me were stick buddies from basic flight thru final. We got head aches together from the blue goose, we drank together, we done everything it was to get thru. Remember Art getting married in Atlanta - the whole class turned out for it. A great day. The day I heard that Art had bought the farm is a day I shall never forget. I was devastated. I figured me to go first and still have an empty spot inside me because my buddy is gone. SLEEP IN PEACE, STICK-BUDDY, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN LARRY HICKERSON(BLACKCAT11(BONES11))

A Salute To A Friend
Hey Art ol Man! I've been looking for you for 30 + years. This Memorial day I looked up you name on the Wall only to find it there. It saddened me to say the least but I know you've moved on to bigger and better things. I've thought of you often over the years and tried everything I could to find you. Of the 4 of us that shared the house with the Playboy Rabbit painted on the door, Only Gene Watkins and I are left. Jim Savas passed on of prostate cancer 2 years ago in Chicago. Remember the Harley Davidson we all almost bought the farm with? Ha! Or your temperamental Jag XKE? I've got a great pic of you sitting on it in front of the house. Oh yeah, remember the constant progression of women in and out of that house? I thought we'd have to buy one of those little "take a number " things so we could keep track. Remember the panic when the one set of women would leave only to have others call and say they were on there way over?!? Argggh! I miss you guy Love Ken Houy

Coins
To all, I was so very young, Arty gave me many things. Once I had a 2ft remote control red jaguar the kind with a 10 ft wire state of the art for the 1960's (Arty's favorite car) I think he had 2 of them. The toy is long gone but I still have the VC coins ya know the kind with the holes in them. As I was told/remember they were worn on the enemy’s neck. My late father had them packed away for me all these years. Now 46 I display them in my mini museum of military artifacts. Thanks Arthur I don't believe I ever had a chance to thank you Jeffrey Benner

Do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
