The name Tom Schalk congers up many pleasant memories. Back in the days of "being home when the streetlights came on", practically spending the entire day on a bike, and many hours on the trails of Mt. Airy Forest, the three of us were great friends. I remember the hot afternoons on Tom's porch making homemade ice-cream with half the neighborhood kids, using a hand cranked; wooden ice-cream maker, taking turns cranking. I was in the Air Force, spent 1 year at BeinHoa, Vietnam and like Tom Wilcox we didn't stay in touch, don't really know why, wasn't as easy then as it is now. Thanks Tom and all your fallen buddies for making the supreme sacrifice.

CHILDHOOD FRIEND
TOMMY WAS A CHILDHOOD FRIEND OF MINE. WE GREW UP TOGETHER IN CINCINNATI DURING THE 1950'S. HE, HIS PARENTS AND TWO SISTERS LIVED ACROSS THE STREET FROM US. THE TWO OF US, ALONG WITH ANOTHER CHILDHOOD FRIEND, KEN MILLER, WERE ALWAYS TOGETHER DURING THOSE YEARS AS WE PLAYED TOGETHER AS CHILDREN DID. WE LOST CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER AS WE WERE GROWING UP IN THE 60'S. I WAS IN THE AIR FORCE, STATIONED ON OKINAWA, WHEN I HEARD OF HIS DEATH. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT HE WAS IN THE ARMY. BY THAT TIME HIS FAMILY HAD MOVED AND WE DID NOT KEEP IN TOUCH. I HAVE BEEN TO D.C. AND HAVE SEEN HIS NAME ON THE "WALL". I WILL NEVER FORGET.

Lest We Forget
Thomas will be honored at the Ohio Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Park in Akron, Ohio. You Are Not Forgotten. www.hack1966.com/memorial
You could have been my uncle.
Same age, last name. I saw your name on the wall and I cried. People wanted to comfort me but I was a fake. You get killed and 30 years later a fake cries infront of a piece of stone

A good friend
After I came back from Nam, me, Tommy, and Jack Faris were partners. Tommy had just about passed the draft age limit, but not quite. Him and Jack are both gone and I miss them. Tommy is a hero to be remembered
