Evaristo Sandoval - I do not remember your face or know if we ever met because I was 1 year old when you began your tour of duty in Vietnam and I was 2 years old when you died. I do remember your funeral and the salute that you were given and when my Aunt Anita Sandoval (your Mom) was given the United States Flag in your honor. As fate had it - my life was just starting when yours ended. Just recently through my job - I went to The National Head Start Health Institute Conference in Washington, D.C. (April 20 - 25, 2003) and had the privilege to visit the Vietnam Wall Memorial in person - your memory came across my mind. I did look for your name - but I was looking for your nickname "Sonny" and I could not find it. I never found your name on the wall that day I went - but you were in my heart. Thank you for being such a brave hero and I know that you are in God's glory and are looking down on me at this very moment. Your Cousin, Janie Pena Almaraz May 16,2003

NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER
It's said a man hasn't died as long as he is remembered. This prayer is a way for family, friends and fellow veterans to remember our fallen brothers.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush of
quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die

Thank you!
Evaristo,
In one of my classes at school we are doing a project to honor all the brave Americans who gave their lives fighting for our country. This great act of service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Your selflessness will be looked at with great admiration and respect. You truly deserve the title of an American Hero! God bless you and your loved ones!
