I was in the same Squad as well as at his side when he was KIA. & May 1966 in the Boi Loi Woods when we were Ambushed from a well-entrenched Unit from the 5th Viet Cong Division.. We were the 1st US Infantry Unit (1st Bn 5th Infantry Reg 25th ID (Reactionary Force for War Zone C & D in 1966) The Rock was a hell of a man and I crawled many Tunnel Systems with him as he was also a Tunnel rat with me in Bravo company 1/5th 1st Platoon 3rd Squad. But for as long as I live, Hermando lives in my Heart and Mind.

Remembering an American Hero

Dear SGT Hermando Sanchez Moya, sir As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned. May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you. With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir Curt Carter

I was side by side with The Rock as we called him when he was KIA in the Boi Loi Woods in a fierce Fire Fight in the trenches of the Boi Loi Woods on 7 May 1966. Hermando was in Bravo Company 1st Platoon 3rd Squad in the 1st Bn 5th Infantry Reg 25th ID out of Cu Chi Vietnam. I ran many Tunnels and laid on many Ambushes with Hermando and miss him dearly. He was one heck of a good Solider and was one of the most courageous Men I ever had the Honor of serving with. Norman 'Butch' Petit

Memorial Day 2008
The memory of “my guys” is in the back of my mind daily, but days like today the thoughts are “front and center”. We, the lucky, live on because of your sacrifice and we will not forget. God rest your soul.

Sergeant Moya, what a loss! The troops respected you, and I counted on you. You were hit seconds from the time I was hit but for reasons known only to God, my wound was minor and yours was not. As the anniversary of that day approaches you and the others that died that day are heavy on my mind. You were a good soldier. GOD REST YOUR SOUL.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

I still miss you after all these years
I will never forget the time we spent together in the 1st Platoon 3rd Squad of B Co 1st Bn 5th Inf Reg 25th Div out of Cu Chi 1966. We ran many a Tunnel together, set on the same Ambushes, walked the same Patrols and drank from the same canteens until that bad day we had in the Boi Loi Woods on the 7th of may 1966.
With Love, Respect & Honor,
