To Lowell, My Cousin
This is a poem I wrote in honor of my cousin, Lowell Moon, when he lost his life in Vietnam. It was in the Union City Daily Messenger in my hometown, of Union City, Tennessee. You are not forgotten, Lowell. To Lowell, My Cousin In memory of Lowell Moon, who was killed in Cambodia, June 9, 1970. Farewell now, for a little while, Our hearts are sad you could not stay. You walked before us that last mile, You went on to a brighter day. Farewell, now, we'll not say goodbye, We cannot turn away the pain. We can't help question of death, 'why?' Yet surely we will meet again. So much of you is left behind, In hearts of those who loved you best. Your spirit's with us all the time, We trust to God then, for the rest. Farewell now, Lowell, our hearts weep. You were so very, very young. And yet, you were not ours to keep. Your song on earth's already sung. You sing now with a sweeter voice, For One who loves you best of all. Though we'd reclaim you, had we choice, You've gone to meet your Master's call. Donna L. Ferguson Dudley

Lowell, you are not forgotten. We all went to see you when you came home. Aunt Willie and Uncle John waited so anxiously for your coming home that June so long ago. We waited for your last return so that we could tell you goodbye. We will never forget you and the sacrifice that you made at so young an age. We are proud to call you our cousin and recognize you for what you are. American Hero. You rest now with those who loved you and wanted to be with you always.

“You are Remembered”
Peace and condolence, to the family and friends. "He which hath no stomach to this fight let him depart. But we in it shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!! For he today, that sheds his blood with me, shall always be my brother”. Rest in peace brave soldier, you have not been forgotten. (W.Shakespeare) May God Bless You for your Sacrifice!!!

Over the weekend I took my oldest son, Chase, on a boy scout campout. During our campout we held a flag retirement ceremony Saturday night on top of Lookout Mountain in a place called Rocktown. We cut the flags into pieces; the Red stripes, the White stripes, and the Star covered fields of Blue.
As we reverently recited words of honor and burned the flag pieces one after another, first the Red, then the White and finaly the crisply folded fields of Blue, I told Chase about you. We let each of the boys put in the red peices, then the white peices in turn. Then the adults placed their folded fields of Blue in the fire and spoke of our firends and family who served in the military. My flag piece was the last one laid on the fire, and the the most honored because it was for you, our fallen Hero.
I was only 7 years old when you were killed in action, but I still remember sitting on the couch with my brother and sister while my Mom took the phone call and fell to her knees sobbing.
You live in our hearts forever. Just as Derrick knows of you from his mother, my sons know of you from me.
p.s., Thanks for bringing me a frisbee and some gum the last time I saw you at Grandma's house.

The Ultimate Hero is one who makes the Ultimate Sacrifice for his family and his country. Lowell Moon is my uncle and I never knew him because he was taken from us 9 years before I was born. I have been told however that if I look into a mirror that he will look back at me because I am his splitting image. He is the Ultimate Hero and always will be. He never even knew that he sacrificed himself so that I could sleep at peace at night. I am eternally greatful to him and all other war heroes past and present.

I'm a retired MSGT U.S.Army from Louisville, Ky who wants to keep your memory alive. We soldiers do not question our duty, but do our part to keep and preserve freedom. However! You gave the ultimate sacrifice. It would have been nice to have known you as a person. You forever will be a HERO. We should never let this brave man "Fade Away", his memory and the Vietnam War should never disappear from our thoughts and history. You are not forgotten!

Lowell, I can still remember you and granddad working on his riding mower and y'all letting me 'help'. You had a kind soul and we all miss you so much. I remember when we came to Ft Knox to get you for the weekend and by accident turned down a tank trail and my dad driving in reverse very fast cuz a tank was coming at us, that was such a great weekend. I can also remember when my mom told us you had been killed and how I laid on me bed crying for hours. Granddad gave me the toolbox that we always used so that I would have something of yours to keep forever. Love you cuz

Lowell, Although we never met, I just want you to know you are not forgotten. You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for what you believed in. Sleep well my friend, and thank you for protecting the freedoms we have today.
Thank you
