Earl is the one bent over with the tipparillo cigar in his mouth. The picture was taken at the B Company EM club at Cu Chi Base Camp in early 1966.
Earl was one you would want along side of you when the shooting started. He could hold his own and more. He loved tipperillo cigars, was constantly reading paperback books, and loathed the C Ration pound cake. With all the hoopla about September 11, 2001 it is ironic that he died on September 11, 1966 and not much was said. He was killed when a barrage of US 105mm was dumped on the second platoon of B Company.

Peace and condolence, to the family and friends. ''He which hath no stomach to this fight let him depart. But we in it shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!! Earl & I served together in Korea 1964-65 in the 3rd Plt of B Company 1st of the 12th Cavalry on the DMZ.Earl & I used to listen to records together & our favorite song was Sam Cook's "That's the Sound of the Men Working on the Chain Gang" Earl was a good soldier & a fun loving guy. We met again in Cu Chi, Vietnam at the perimeter Summer of 1966. I was with C 2 27 Infantry Wolfhounds & Earl was with the 5th Mech. Shortly after I learned that Earl was KIA. It deeply saddened me. " I still think of Earl often. " Rest In Peace Brother " Frank

Do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

We Remember
Earl is buried at Jefferson Barracks Nat Cem.
Good Soldier
Irving and I were in the same squad together, he was a fun guy, and good soldier, I was with him the night he was KIA, I often think of him, he always talked of home and his family. We became good friends, Whenever I feel down or troubled I remember Irving and my other fallen comrades, I know he and the others would want me to do my best, and be thankful for life and living, I owe many accomplishments to him and others for keeping me motivated in their honor
