In Tribute to LTC Robert Henry Gross, with So Much Gratitude for his Courage, and his years of Service and Dedication to our Country and for Freedom. Rest in Peace and know that you will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. I am the sister of Sgt David Dickinson, a young hero, who also made the Supreme Sacrifice in Vietnam 1967... ...NOW ARISES FROM HALLOWED GROUND A DELICATE CLOUD OF BUGLE NOTES THAT SOFTLY SAY, GO TO SLEEP....COMRADES TRUE, BORN ANEW, PEACE TO YOU. YOUR SOULS SHALL BE WHERE THE HEROES ARE AND YOUR MEMORIES SHINE LIKE THE MORNING STAR....SLUMBER WELL, WHERE THE SHELLS SCREAMED AND FELL....THE DANGER HAS PASSED, AND NOW AT LAST, GO TO SLEEP.... The young dead soldiers do not speak.
Nevertheless, they are heard in the still houses:
who has not heard them?
They have a silence that speaks for them at night
and when the clock counts.
They say: We were young. We have died.
Remember us.
They say: We have done what we could
but until it is finished it is not done.
They say: We have given our lives but until it is finished
no one can know what our lives gave.
They say: Our deaths are not ours: they are yours,
they will mean what you make them.
They say: Whether our lives and our deaths were for
peace and a new hope or for nothing we cannot say,
it is you who must say this.
We leave you our deaths. Give them their meaning.
We were young, they say. We have died; remember us.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear LTC Robert Henry Gross, sir As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned. May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you. With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir Curt Carter

For an Army officer who exemplified...THE CORPS!!! THE CORPS!!! THE CORPS!
THE CORPS! Bareheaded, salute it! With eyes up, thanking our God, that we of the CORPS are treading, where they of the CORPS have trod! They are here, in ghostly assemblage! The MEN of the CORPS long dead! And our hearts are standing ATTENTION! While we wait for their passing tread! We sons of today, we salute you! You sons of an earlier day! We follow, close order, behind you, where you had pointed the way! The Long Gray Line of us stretches through the years of a century told! And the last man feels to his marrow, the grip of your far-off hold! GRIP HANDS with us now, though we see not! GRIP HANDS with us, strengthen our hearts, as the Long Line stiffens and straightens with the thrill that your presence imparts! GRIP HANDS, though it be from the shadows! While we swear, as you did of yore! Or living or dying to honor...THE CORPS!!! AND THE CORPS!!! AND THE CORPS! We, the people of America, salute LTCOL.GROSS, USA, whose devotion to DUTY!!!...whose devotion to HONOR!!!...and ABOVE ALL!...whose devotion to GOD and our COUNTRY!!!!!...the land that he loved...the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave...will NEVER... I say again, will NEVER be extinguished from our minds!!!...and our hearts!!!...HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!
If I should die...remembrances for LTCOL. Robert Henry GROSS, USA...who died for our freedom and us!
If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.
