Peace and condolence, to the family and friends. “He which hath no stomach, to this fight, let him depart. But we in it, shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!! For he today, that sheds his blood with me, shall always be my brother.” Rest in peace brave soldier, you have not been forgotten. (W.Shakespeare) May God Bless you, for your Sacrifice!!!

July 13, 2003 I have looked up James L. Fain on the Vietnam Memorial Wall as a fellow soldier I knew and I am concerned if he is the same one, he is shown as being with the 1st Infantry at time of his death. The James L. Fain I knew, I meet when we reenlist at the U. S. Army Recruiting Main Station (4209-09), 621 N. Robinson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 15, 1963. Sp-4. Fain and I shared the same Hotel room and went to a movie together while waiting to be processed. Then Pvt. Fain was assigned to 4th AG Admin Co., Ft. Lewis, Washington and I was assigned to HQ. Co. 1st Cavalry Div., 8th US Army, South Korea and I never saw Sp-4 Fain again until he was assigned to my unit in Vietnam. When I left Korea in 1964 I was assigned to the HQ. Co. 1st Bn. (Mech.) 5th Inf., 2nd Brigade, 25th Infantry Div. at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii. In 1965 the 25th Infantry Div. was ordered deployed to South Vietnam. My unit arrived in country January 16, 1966 and camped at Saigon University on January 22, 1966 we were ordered to Cu Chi to set up Base Camp. I again meet Sp-4 Fain in February 1966 when he was assigned to my unit, Tragically he was killed in action after only a few days in country and we never got to renew our acquaintance. Since he was new to the unit when he was killed I was called to identify his body it is something I have never forgot after all these years. I am attaching a copy of our orders with these comments about the memory of Sp-4 James L. Fain a fellow Bobcat in arms. Sp-4 Fain was among 13 fellow Bobcats to be killed during February 1966, I hope this information is of help to someone. Submitted by then SP-4 Junior R. Giboney, Battalion S-4, Headquarters, 1st Battalion (Mechanized) 5th Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 25th Infantry Div., Cu Chi District of Hau Nghia Province, South Vietnam in 1966. Sincerely, SSG Junior R. Giboney, USAF retired

I'm a retired MSGT U.S.Army from Louisville, Ky who wants to keep your memory alive. We soldiers do not question our duty, but do our part to keep and preserve freedom. However! You gave the ultimate sacrifice. It would have been nice to have known you as a person. You forever will be a HERO. We should never let this brave man "Fade Away", his memory and the Vietnam War should never disappear from our thoughts and history. You are not forgotten!

I am a senior at Gridley High School in Gridley, IL.
As part of the Gridley High School Posting Project, a
project that ensures that those brave men and women
who perished during the Vietnam War are remembered, I
write this to you; The Lord himself goes before you
and will be with you; he will never leave you nor
forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
