Pinky was a good friend and a Hero

You will never be forgotton.
I met Pinky in first grade at St Anselm's school circa 1954. We were pals and had a lot of fun after school getting into trouble. I remember when they broke ground for the drive in and the day it opened. I remember dearly the day Tom brought home that GTO. We were living American Graffiti and those were the days. We went to Drake High and life was good back then. Then we were drafted and we became men overnight. We fought together although in different units. I was lucky enough to be home when Pinky was burried and I attended his funeral. RIP Pinky Dillon. You will always be remembered. You are the reason we live in the best Country, the land of the free. You have proven this is the home of the brave. Your old pal, Jim

George, nick name Pinky, is remembered everyday, of his families lives. I work for the cause, of MIA's., POW's., in getting the flag, raised and flying, at every Sports Complex across, the United States. So far we have been sucessful in 17, including the Oaklanad County Coliseum, in Oakland, California. I'am a member of the Navy League, of the United States and the Tailhook, Assn.. I actively support, all Military services. I was instrumental in raising funds, for the Calif., Vietnam, Veteran's Memorial, while working with the Oakland A's, Baseball club, in 1987, where the largest fundraiser in the organizations history, was put on, to raise funds and to honor and bring together former POW's., from the Vietnam War. Enough money was raised, to place 12, names, (only a few, of the many) on the wall, one, being my brothers. Barbara Dillon Reilly, San Diego, California

Gone But Never Forgotten
Growing up in San Anselmo, I knew all the Dillons. Pinky's brother, Jeep, was a year ahead of me in school, and Pinky was several year's behind me. Pinky's dad, Tom, was one of the nicest gentlemen I can recall. I am writing this for some closure and to thank Pinky for his personal sacrifice. I served for 15 months in Vietnam and I was fortunate to return. Pinky, like some 50,000 others, did not come back. His sacrifice was supreme. Like so many of my comrade in arms, they were taken from us all too soon. Thank you, Pinky, and I will never forget you or the others whose names are insribed forever in granite and in our hearts.

A Friend Lost But Not Forgotten
I am a native of San Anselmo, and met Pinky when we both attended Sir Francis Drake High School. We became friends and remained so throughout the four years. My sister, Maryann, was friends with his sister, Barbara. I learned of PinkyÆs loss while I was stationed in Japan with the U.S. Air Force. I served 2 years as an aircraft crewmember flying cargo into various bases within Viet Nam. I was among the fortunate to have returned. I have thought of Pinky often and reminisced about him with mutual friends. I think of all the wonderful joys in life that I have experienced over the years, and feel deep sorrow that he has missed out. Pinky, you have not been forgotten. I missed you 35 years ago and I miss you today. I want to thank you for your tremendous dedication and ultimate sacrifice. You will forever be a hero in my eyes! Rest in Peace my friend. "My Younger Brother's Friend"
I don't know how George became "Pinky" but that is how I knew him. He was my younger brother, Joe's, friend. Always seemed that Barb and I thought they were pests. When I heard in 1968 that Pinky had been killed in battle, I felt a great loss. I thought of my own brother in the Air Force and hoped he would be coming home to us. I also thought of Barb and how Pinky's death would affect her and her family for the rest of their lives. Pinky was one of 55,000 heros that left their hometowns to go to a foreign land to fight and lost their life. Thank you Pinky. I can honestly say that in my life time I knew a true HERO!

NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER
It is said a man hasn't died as long as he is remembered. This prayer is a way for families, friends and fellow veterans to remember our fallen brothers and sisters. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die
