On February 28, 1970, at 1216 hours, the lead APC of a resupply convoy headed to Dau Tieng from the battalion forward base detonated an explosive device on one of the dirt roads running through the Michelin at XT 557512. The APC was completely destroyed and seven Bobcats were killed. At 1250 hours, a Dust-off was requested for two Bobcats who were in shock.
Graves registration personnel were called to the location to help recover body parts. The explosive device was later estimated to be in the 500 pound bomb category. An M-548 TVR was also damaged in the blast. The ramp from the APC was blown backwards into the 548, knocking out its final drive.

Peace and condolence, to the family and friends. “He which hath no stomach, to this fight, let him depart. But we in it, shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!! For he today, that sheds his blood with me, shall always be my brother.” Rest in peace brave soldier, you have not been forgotten. (W.Shakespeare) May God Bless you, for your Sacrifice!!!

A True War Hero
Donnie Chastain was a true war hero because he had no regard for his life so he could protect his country whom he loved dearly. But I never got to meet him but I have had the opportunity to visit his burial site in Greenville county. And it makes me proud to know that he protected this county and risked everything to do it.

Little Red, Just wanted you, to know, that I, have not forgotten. Miss our talks about "the world," on those long nights, on guard, at FSB., Devan. Glad, you were there, on those scary ambush and roving patrols. Did you know, you were one, of the good ones? If I had to fight another war, I'd want you, on my right side. Say "Hi" to Billy, Dave, Tom and Jesus. See you soon. John
