I was the medic with the platoon when Junior was killed. He was a great guy who gave his life for his country. May God Bless.

I remember when Plt Sgt Burns came to Recon. He came to us from the 4th ID to replace Plt Sgt Horst Adams who was going home. Plt Sgt Burns was only with us for about a month or so in Sept/Oct '67 when he was KIA on a night ambush. Several other Recon men were wounded in the same attack. I was on guard duty at the forward base camp when the attack broke out. What a helpless feeling to listen to the fight and the radio chatter.
I didn't have time to get to know Plt Sgt Burns real well but I do remember him as a person with a commanding personality. He seemed like a no nonsense leader that commanded respect yet would reach out to you on a personal bases. If I would of had the chance to know him better I'm sure we would of had a good relationship. I didn't know much about him personally except rumors that he was married with several children. We all felt it a shame that he was lost in his prime.
May he rest in peace.

In remembrance, of your birthday. Thank you, for the ultimate sacrifice, for such, an unthankful nation. I am sorry, that you like many, before and after, are not celebrated as much, as you should be, HEROES, to everyone. Unknown to me, but never forgotten. Numbers, 6:24-26, The LORD, bless you and keep you. the LORD make his face, shine upon, you and be gracious, to you. The LORD lift up, his countenance upon, you and give you peace.

Never Forgotten
FOREVER REMEMBERED
"If you are able, save for them a place inside of you....and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go.....Be not ashamed to say you loved them....
Take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own....And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind...."
Quote from a letter home by Maj. Michael Davis O'Donnell
KIA 24 March 1970. Distinguished Flying Cross: Shot down and Killed while attempting to rescue 8 fellow soldiers surrounded by attacking enemy forces.
We Nam Brothers pause to give a backward glance, and post this remembrance to you, one of the gentle heroes lost to the War in Vietnam:
Slip off that pack. Set it down by the crooked trail. Drop your steel pot alongside. Shed those magazine-ladened bandoliers away from your sweat-soaked shirt. Lay that silent weapon down and step out of the heat. Feel the soothing cool breeze right down to your soul ... and rest forever in the shade of our love, brother.
From your Nam-Band-Of-Brothers
