Missing You
Posted on 11/10/17 - by Freddie Munoz skymaster12135@aol.com

Today, is the anniversary in the passing of my best friend Raul Vargas. It was 48 years ago, he was killed in Vietnam. This wonderful man has been my guardian angel since. Although it has been 48 years, he is loved and missed dearly. Now I ask him to look over my father Art Munoz. As the time nears for my dad, I ask to greet him with open arms of comfort at the gates of heaven. Love and God Bless you always

My dear friend Raul. 47 years later, You are missed dearly. Words do not describe the loss that my heart feels today. You have made such an impact on my life. And I would hope that I could be a small part of who you were. I may have been only 9 yrs old when you passed, But today, you are still my best friend. Rest in Peace with the other angels. God Bless you always. Freddie

Honoring You

46 years ago you lost your life along with my brother, Robert "Pete" Query, and Arthur "Art" Castillo. Art's sister, Karen Van Meter, and I honored Art, Pete and you by making a collage of photographs of all of you and placing it at the Moving Wall in Palmdale on November 10, 2015.

I visited your gravesite on November 9, 2015, remembering back to the day when I met you at my parents house and how glad I was that my brother Pete, had found a friend in the Army.

I hope that your family and friends read this, Karen and I have so much to share about the three of you. We will never forget.

To you, Raul!

You were a Junior at VPHS and I was a Senior but I remember you as someone who loved life and was a great friend! Rest in Peace, Raul!

This was a friendly fire accident. From one of the members of the troop at the time this is what happened.  "We had stopped to take a break from the heat & two APCs were sitting in a low point with their fronts up in the air and two Sheridan tanks pointing with their guns down into the low point......I was standing on one of the Sheridans talking to them.....they were in the shade behind the vehicles.......the Sheridan right behind them, the main gun went off.......it was a flechette round.....there was no helping them.....the TC was reclining in his cupola and he received dozens of wounds to his arms......The TC on the Sheridan that fired kept his breech closed and safety off...he used the TC controls to fire the main gun......this was a horrible accident and took 3 lives.

A Note from The Virtual Wall
The three men killed in the accident were
CPL Arthur J. Castillo, Pico Rivera, CA
PFC Robert P. Query, Santa Ana, CA
PFC Raul J. Vargas, Orange, CA

A Special Friendship
Posted on 12/29/14 - by Lynn Branch billy-goat@cox.net
My brother, Robert Peter Query, lost his life along with Raul and Arthur John Castillo on November 10, 1969, in the same casualty. I was 15 years old. My recollection is that my brother and Raul met in boot camp at Fort Ord and became friends, my brother being from Santa Ana and Raul from Orange. When they were both home on leave, I had the pleasure of meeting Raul when he came to my home. I was so happy that my brother had a friend in the Army. Raul was such a nice person. I remember that after 45 years. We did not know that Raul lost his life alongside my brother until we read his passing in the newspaper. I remember my parents contacting the parents of Raul and they came to our home. I will never forget the bond of the two parents who lost their children at the same time. To the family and friends of Raul who may read this, please know that I pay my respects to Raul often and cherish the friendship that he made with my brother Peter.
To my falling brothers

The day is forever tethered to my soul, the four of us just stopped to rest from the heat and set down behind our PC #34.It was you and me. Arthur and Raul. As hot as it was It was a beautiful country in contrast to where we were. Only minutes past and I got up and went into the track to retrieve something and you were gone as was Pete and Raul. An accident, friendly fire. Three brave and dedicated souls departed this earth. We were brothers in arms. I loved you as brothers. We shall meet again .
45 Years ago today

Raul, 45 years ago today, you were called home. I did not realize at 9 yrs old, just how much I would miss you. But today, I know that you have never left my side.
You are a beautiful man. May God Bless you. And may I be Blessed to see you in our next life. God Bless and love you always. Freddie
