You may find this of interest? Back in 2016 at the Harrisburg Pa. reunion I got in a conversation with a few other guys to include David Olsen A Troop. We got to talking about all the TWS info that David Olsen has done over the years and him knowing I reside in Idaho & am a native Montanan he brought up this Glen Atkinson name and said something like he thought that there was a guy from 3/4 Cav laid to rest in some small community in Idaho or Montana! So we looked it up right there on a IPhone and I come to find out that Glen Atkinson is laid to rest about 18 miles from my home! He & I severed in the 3rd Platoon in A Troop for a month or so together. He got there in July & I got into the field in second week of May. I never knew him but other guys said he volunteered to get into the rifle platoon Delta Troop after a short time in A Troop These photos are from the cemetery he is laid to rest in next to his Dad & mom! Very moving for me when I put it all together. (His mom was still living when we first found the graves) My wife and I have been there a number of times since. (Memorial day & Veterans Day) I have lived in Idaho since 1977 and never had a clue. His Dad died at age 22 in WWII ! Glen was a month shy of 10 years old! By Gene Peters April 10, 2019
History
Posted on 5/29/17 - by Mary Beth Armstrong
Glen was a good man. His brother Jim was wounded in Vietnam. They were able to be together for a few weeks at Ft. Lewis, (where Jim was in the hospital recovering from his wound) before Glen left to go to Vietnam, where he was killed. They hadn't seen each other for several years because of LDS missions and serving in the military.

Awarded for actions during the Vietnam War
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Specialist Fourth Class Glen Lawrence Atkinson (ASN: US-56628667), United States Army, for gallantry in action. Specialist Fourth Class Atkinson distinguished himself by heroic actions on 2 February 1969, while serving with Troop D, 3d Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. While on a combat operation, Troop D came under intense enemy fire from an enemy bunker complex. With complete disregard for his own safety, Specialist Atkinson began assaulting through the brush towards an enemy machine gun position. As he neared the bunker and began to place fire into it, Specialist Atkinson was mortally wounded. His valorous actions contributed immeasurably to the thwarting of the enemy force. Specialist Atkinson's personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.

Remembering An American Hero
Posted on 11/9/13 - by Curt Carter ccarter02@earthlink.net
Dear SP4 Glen Lawrence Atkinson, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

in gratitude
I feel everyone here needs some acknowledgement of their ultimate sacrifice for our country. You died much too young. You had a life that deserved many more years. You left behind people who loved you and who, I imagine still feel the pain of your loss to this day. I hope they have comfort in knowing you are at rest and that they will someday see you again in a much better place.
Your courage and efforts in Viet Nam will never be forgotten in my heart and in a multitude of others who have the utmost respect and honor for the soldiers who lost their lives there.
