As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter
If I should die...remembrances for CAPT. James Mitchell ATCHISON, USA...who died for our country!!!!

If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.

I'll never forget the sweet sound of your alto sax when you played with the 'Shades'

You didn't have to go.
Jimmy played a mean sax with the Shades. He should've followed Penny Callas into the music world, he was that good. The last summer before we entered JR High school we used fire crackers and lighter fluid on our Marx WW II soldiers. Blew them up and burned the remains. Jimmy, you should have left it alone after that, as an only child, you didn't have to go. RIP buddy.

Today is 11th April 2000 and I'm celebrating my 57th birthday. I have found James Atchison, a namesake of mine and a hero and want to express my sadness that this young man did not live and enjoy children and family and the pleasures of life that I have. I will think of you tomorrow James, the anniversary of your premature death 12 April. God bless you.

We still remember and think of you
We visited the Wall and saw your name, many years ago. I can't help remembering Calvary Methodist Church choir practice, and how we always gave Mrs. Braungardner a hard time. We exchanged candies, told jokes, and giggled during church...you, Terry, Judy and I. It was fun. This is Memorial Day, and we remember. Thank you, Janice.

Thinking about FHS and Jimmy
At Frederick High School and at South End Civic Jimmy was a very good friend. We played and worked together. On this Memorial Day I remember those days and a very good friend. He is and always will be remembered. Thank you for your service Jimmy.

You were the skinny runt down the hill who played with plastic Marx soldiers. We used fire crackers and lighter fluid on them the summer before entering FHS. You were never a jock and somehow ended up in the green machine. My mother's letter reached me when I was stationed in Puerto Rico with the sad news of your untimely death. I didn't even know the army had snatched you up. Jimmy, play me a tune on your sax so I can find you when my clock runs out.

Jimmy, do you remember when your musical career got its start?? I do. ....It was when you and I sang a duet at the Elm Street School's "Elm-Capades".....my musical career ended right then and there, you, on the other hand went on to greatness blowing that mean Saxaphone....greatness? well at least you made a buck or two from your musical achievements. You and Penny Callas and the rest of the Shades gave to the young people of Frederick something to do on a summer night to keep us off the streets and out of trouble. Oh we will never forget the places.... SouthEnd, Braddock, Thurmont, Woodsboro. Then we all sort of went our seperate ways with those memories to last our life times. Then in April 1970 your music died , but nothing can nor will ever kill the wonderful memories you helped create and were such a part of. We love ya Jimmy !!!
