I knew Randall, back in Valley Head, WV., when we were kids. I think, it was around 1960, or a little later. I remember, they lived on a small farm, in a big, white farmhouse, up what was called the Churchroad, above Valley Head. My sisters, use to be friends, with his sister and I can remember, walking, to they're house, back then. Anyway, back to the story. I was fishing, in the river, behind the Post office and I heard, someone and it was Randall. We were all poor, back then and neither of us, had much tackle, to fish with, but I remember, we kept seeing, a Rainbow trout swimming, up and down the hole of water, we were fishing in, but it wouldn't bite anything. I looked, through my stuff and found, 2, old, dry flies, that someone had given me. So, I gave Randall, one and I took, the other. Randall's looked, like a Bumble Bee, Well, anyway, Randall finally threw his out, on the old poles, we were using, I remember it hit, about 4, or 5, feet, from the bank and as soon, as it hit the water, that trout grabbed it and Randall, hauled him up, onto the bank. I was, still tying mine on. ha ha! Back then, I really wanted that fish, but after Randall left, for the service and later, I heard what had happened to him, I was always glad, that I gave him, that fly that day. I can still, see the smile, on his face, when he pulled, that fish in, I still stop by, his grave site, when I'm around there and I always remember that fish, that day, when I do, I was glad, it made him happy, because like I said, back then, we were all poor families, we all didn't have much, but I wouldn't trade those memories, of that day now, for a thousand today, that's the kind, you never forget. Rest In Piece, Buddy, I hope, your catching all, the big ones now! Your Long Lost, Fishing Friend

I had, the opportunity to visit, The Vietnam Memorial Wall, in Washington DC.. As I searched and found, the names of my friends, classmates, neighbors, etched, into the smooth, black face, of the Wall, an extraordinary, outpouring of emotion, became so strong. I was so overwhelmed, with sorrow and pain, that I could not, hold back the tears, for those heroes and their families, who lost so much. Though, my visit to the Wall, was a few years ago, I feel that I left a piece, of my heart there. To honor, those who died, in the Vietnam War and to say thank you, I created a small tribute, to those heroes. Please click, on the link above, to view, memorial website.
