John Pettitt was a man I knew pretty well in Vietnam because I was in "C Troop" 3rd platoon at that time along with him. I remember he was short timer (very short) and working with HQ troop at the time of his KIA in center of a night troop laager (supposedly a safer area, off the firing line area). John was an E-5 Buck Sgt. and was a tank commander of one of the Sheridans in the platoon. I remember him being a together NCO who knew his stuff and was very admired by the men of 3rd platoon. John had to be one of the last (if not the last) KIAs of "C" Troop. So sad...RIP my Brother.
