LTC OTTO SCHLUDECKER U.S. Army, Retired Otto Allen Schludecker passed away in Las Vegas, July 9, 2013, at Nathan Adelson Hospice after a prolonged illness. Otto was born Aug. 24, 1931, in New Hope, Pa. He married Jane Ann Wheeler of Chautauqua, N.Y. in Berlin, Germany in 1955. Jane Ann preceded him in death in 1996. He married Shirley Wales Wakefield of Las Vegas in 1998. Col. Schludecker retired from the U.S. Army in 1975 after 22 years of service. His last assignment was as professor of military science at Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, Pa., from which he had graduated in 1950. During his career, he served in Europe, the Far East, Alaska, and various pasts throughout the continental United States. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Joint Service medal, the Army Commendation medal and the Expeditionary medal. He also earned the Combat Infantry badge and the Parachutist badge. Otto and Jane operated the Spencer Hotel in Chautauqua for 18 years after his U.S. Army career. He was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the World Wars, the Military Officers Association of America and the American Legion. Otto is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Thomas and James; his daughter, Kim Doty; two grandchildren, James and Kate Doty; and his sister, Joan Allen. Burial will be private at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a veterans organization of your choice.
