 Additional Information
Last Known Activity:

World War II Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served as a First Lieutenant in the 338th Infantry, 85th Infantry Division. As a platoon leader, he was conspicuous in leading his command in the assaults on the city of Firenzuola, Italy. It was near there on September 22, 1944, that he took the matter of enemy German resistance into his own hands. Gathering three volunteers from his platoon, the patrol made their way to a big rock, behind a group of three buildings where five machine gun nests were located. Putting his men in position to cover, he single-handed captured nineteen prisoners, wounding six of them and eliminating a total of five enemy machine gun nests. His actions saved his company many casualties and permitted them to continue the attack with success. After the war he remained in the Army and retired as a full Colonel.
