2nd Lieutenant Nancy J. Leo served with the 216th General Hospital as an Army Nurse in England and France. She was injured along with two other nurses in a jeep accident when the jeep was forced off the road. She died on the way to hospital in Paris. She was to meet her sister, Angela, also a nurse.
She was interred in Luxembourg American Cemetery, Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, Plot H, Row 9, Grave 71, the only female interred in this American services cemetery.
She graduated from Allegheny Hospital School of Nursing, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania where she received her nursing training.
She had been in service for three years and overseas for 16 months. Her unit, the 216th General Hospital, landed in Scotland in March 1944, then moved to Longleat Warminster, WIltshire, England (between Bristol and Salisbury). The unit moved to France in mid-June 1945. She was 23 years of age.
