 Additional Information
Last Known Activity:

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as Captain and comander of Company B, 1st West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Sailors Creek, Virginia on April 6, 1865. His citation simply reads "Capture of flag". That flag, the colors of the 10th Georgia Infantry, was captured after Captain Boon led a charge on a battalion of infantry and after he had cut down the Confederate color-bearer. His charge was unauthorized, but because of the positive results he received accolades from his superiors for the action. His Medal was issued on May 3, 1865. He was one of fourteen 1st West Virginia Cavalry soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Civil War (the others being Private James F. Adams, Corporal Thomas Anderson, Lieutenant Wilmon W. Blackmar, Sergeant Richard Boury, Major Charles E. Capehart, Colonel Henry Capehart, 1st Sergeant Francis M. Cunningham, Commissary Sergeant William Houlton, Private Archibald Rowand, Chief Bugler Charles Schorn, Corporal Emisire Shahan, Sergeant Levi Shoemaker, and Private Daniel A. Woods).
