CSM Zietlow was Command Sergeant Major of the 54th Signal Battalion while I commanded in1966-1967. He was KIA shortly after being selected as the Command Sergeant Major for the First Field Force, Vietnam (IFFV) in Nha Trang. CSM Zietlow had been Sergeant Major of nine different Battalions, beginning as a young man in the Korean War. He was a great soldier, and his death a great loss to the Army and the Country.

To A great Sergeant
I served with SMJ Zietlow in 1967 in the 54th. He was a soldier's sergeant, a fair and honest man and a leader by far. He was killed just after I left and I was deeply saddened by his passing. I don't remember many, but I'll always remember Zietlow.
