The following is a letter, sent to the sister (Cathy Roland Cole) of Charles Roland about her brother.

"Your brother Sgt. Chuck Roland was my track commander.  I believe our track was A-22.  It was an honor to serve under your brother, many of us old troopers are alive today because of the courage of your brother.  I was wounded on June 22, 1967 and spent the following six months in hospitals, mostly at Walter Reed.  My replacement was a trooper by the name of Bray, I believe that he also served on A-22 and was killed the same day that Chuck was killed.  Chuck was a courageous and fearless NCO.  A friend of mine who was with Chuck when he was killed told me Chuck went down fighting, not surprizing to anyone who knew him.  I believe Chuck earned the Silver Star the day he was killed.  My friend Ronnie Bowen was with Chuck on that day, Ron passed away several months ago.  Also Sgt Bobby Weldon was with Chuck that day.  Bobby lost both his arms, and one eye.  We were at Walter Reed together.  Bobby also earned the Silver Star that day.  If you could locate Bobby Weldon he could provide you with much more information.  I still have some survivors guilt, my eyes are starting to tear up.  Your brother was also my brother, it's that way with the 3/4 Cav.  I am proud and honored to have known your brother, as I know you must be.  God Bless you.

Bill Mitchell.
