Last Known Activity
According to news article, appearing in the Joplin Globe, SSgt. Layne suffered severe chest wounds during combat operations on 9 July 1970.  He died of those wounds in hospital on 14 July 1970.

He graduated from high school in June 1963, entering the Army in December 1968.

He was interred in Moorehead Cemetery, Bushnell, Barton County, Missouri.
