WO Beals was trained at Fort Wolters in flight class 67-3, 1 July 66 - 11 April 67.

His tour in Vietnam began on 8 May 1967.  He was assigned to C Battery, 2nd Battalion (ARA), 20th Artillery Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division.  

On 29 December 1967, WO Beals was the air commander of a helicopter UH-1B (#64-14034) that was shot down by small arms fire, killing all on board.
