Master Sergeant Wells was a member of the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on July 15, 1953 and died of those wounds on July 28, 1953.
Joseph Wells, United States Army, is reported to have been awarded the Silver Star under the below-listed General Orders for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 3d Infantry Division in Korea.
