The following May 30, 1968, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 7: Mr. and Mrs.William Acree, P.O. Box 247, Cedar Lake, received word of the death of their son, Spec. 4 Billy Ray Acree. The 20 year old soldier was killed near Long Binh, which had been under enemy mortar attack for two weeks. He attended Crown Point High school where he graduated in 1965. Entering the U.S. Army in January of 1966, he was sent overseas in December of 1967. He would have been discharged in December of 1968. He is survived by his mother and father, and three sisters, Tonie, Lillian and Linder. Burial will be in his home town of Brazil, Indiana.
