Last Known Activity
Lt Col. Jaimie E. Leonard, 39, of Warrick, N.Y., died June 8, in Sharana, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered from small arms fire received at Zarghun Shahr, Afghanistan. The soldiers were assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. From a young age, she dreamed of serving in the military and achieved this ambition with over 16 years of honorable service in the US Army. A brilliant and committed officer, Jaimie was respected and beloved by those with whom she served. She was an inspiration to all. LTC Jaimie was preceded in death by her father, Robert Fulton Leonard Jr. and mother, Patricia Ann Oberst. She is survived by five siblings: Elizabeth Anne Harman and husband JR Harman and daughters Ava and Leah of Putnam Valley, NY; Hannah J. Rudy and husband Travis Shores and son Theolonious and daughter Fionna of Hanover, NH; Allyson Basha and husband Mohammed Basha and daughter Nina of Burlington, VT; Samantha Leonard, presently serving with the Peace Corps in Grenada, West Indies; and Robert Leonard of East Dorset, VT; step-mother Sally Asbury Leonard of East Dorset, VT; and three godchildren, Kristen Courage, Katherine Kemkes, and Ava Harman. Jaimie will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and many friends and colleagues. She was a true inspiration and consummate soldier- dedicated to her work, family, and friends - and she will be profoundly missed.

Two 10th Mountain Division Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan
 
Fort DrumNY - Two 10th Mountain Division Soldiers with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade Combat Team died June 8, in SharanaAfghanistan, of injuries sustained from small arms fire received at Zarghun ShahrAfghanistan.

Killed are Lt. Colonel Todd J. Clark, age 40 of Evans Mills, New York and Lt. Colonel Jaimie E. Leonard, age 39, of Warrick, New York.

 
Leonard, an Intelligence Officer, graduated in May 1997 from the United States Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned in the Army upon graduation. She arrived at Fort Drum in July 2010. Leonard deployed to Bosnia in 1999, to Iraq in 2005 and to Afghanistan in 2011. She again deployed with her unit to Afghanistan in January 2013.
 
Leonard's awards and decorations include two Bronze Stars, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, the Valorous Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, three Afghanistan Campaign Medals, two Iraq Campaign Medal,  the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, five Overseas Service Ribbons, the NATO Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
 
Leonard completed the Intermediate Level Education Qualification and Common Core Courses, the Counter Intelligent Agent Course, the Combined Arms Services Staff School Course, the Basic and Advanced Military Intelligence Officer Course, the Airborne Course, the Air Movement Operator Course, the Nuclear Biological and Chemical Officer Course, and the Master Fitness Trainer Course.
 
Leonard is survived by five siblings.
