MILITARY DATA
Charles started his military career as a Seaman 2/c in the United States Navy enlisting on October 25th 1945.  The record indicates he was 17, yet his birthdate indicates he was closer to 15 or 16.  Charles reinlisted in the Army shortly after his discharge from the Navy. 

Article from Berkley Post-Herald, Berkley, W. VA.  Thursday Morning, February 12, 1953:
"Charles Lindy Vanover, 22, son of Mrs. Maggie Powell Vanover of Iager enlisted in the Regular Army for six years."
 
   
Comments/Citation


Sgt. Vanover died 6 April 1989 from wounds he received 19 May 1966 while serving with 2nd Platoon, A Troop, 3rd Squadron 4th Cavalry, 25th Infantry Division.

CHARLES LINDON VANOVER SR., 58, 1884 Twin Lake Drive, WInter Garden, died Thursday.  Born in Iaeger, W.Va., he moved to Winter Garden from Louisville, Ky., in 1976.  He was an Army master sergeant.  He was a member of the Ocoee United Methodist Church.  He was a member of Elk Lodge No. 2165, Winter Garden, and a lifetime member of DAV Chapter No. 16.  Survivors: wife, Jeanetta; son, Charles L. Jr., Winter Garden; daughter, Teresa Straw, Orlando; brother, Ray, Northfork, W. Va; sister, Daisy Church, Iaeger, W. Va.
