 Additional Information
What are you doing now:
James Earl Jones is the son of Robert Earl Jones (1910 - 2006) and Ruth (Connolly) Jones.  Because his father left when he was very young he ended up being adopted and living with his mothers parents on their farm in Michigan.  He was five years of age at this time. He is multiracial with African, Irish, and Native American ancestry.  He said his grandmother was "the most racist person I have ever known."  His grandmother was of Cherokee, Choctaw, and Black sncestry.  James graduated from Kaleua-Norman-Dickon High School of Brethren, Michigan and the University of Michigan with a BA in Drama in 1953. While in school and in ROTC he was a member of the Pershing Rifle Drill Team and a member of the Scabbard and Blade Honor Society.   Jones was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in 1953 and reported to Fort Benning for Infantry Officers Basic Course, then going to Jump School and on to Ranger School where he was awarded his Ranger Tab.  He was scheduled to then go to Fort Leonard Wood but his orders changed to the Cold Weather Mountain Training Command at Camp Hale near Leadville, Colorado.  His battalion became a training unit in the rugged terrain of the Rocky Mountains.  He was promoted to First Lieutenant before his discharge and was thinking of re-enlisting but was urged by his commander to check out civilian life first to make sure that's what he really wanted.  He left the Army and continued his schooling under the GI Bill and the rest we all know as far as his acting is concerned.  He is presently married to Cecila Hart (M. 15 March 1982).  He was married to Julienne Marie but they divorced.  He has a son named Flynn Earl Jones.
