POSTED ON 1/19/17 - BY ROBERT LINENWEBER ROBERT.LINENWEBER@GMAIL.COM

I was a young 2LT going through flight school when Bill was my neighbor. He and his wife and children were wonderful to me. Bill had already done two tours in Vietnam at the time and at that point I had never been outside of the United States.

Shortly after I left for Vietnam, Bill was sent back for a third tour. When I returned from Vietnam I was assigned to Fort Rucker for a short training course. That delighted me because I would get to see the La Grone's again. When I went to their home and learned that Bill had been killed in Vietnam it hit me like a ton of bricks. What a tragic loss of a truly great American.
