Recalling a buddy

Fred had only a few special interests, as I recall: football and hunting were at the top of the list. We played high school football together. A weight-lifter, Fred loved contact. He especially enjoyed "live tackle" drills during practice when he would blast us runningbacks one-on-one with no offensive linemen giving us protection. During the fall (probably after the football season), Fred was skip school for a day or two at the opening of deer-hunting season. I imagine Fred had all the right qualities to make him an outstanding soldier.
