Marvin and I were both in the first platoon in L co. 35th Regiment, 25th Div. and had been together for many months prior to his death at heart break ridge April 1st, 1952. We shared a comraderie common to front line troops. Marvin as I remember was an orphan from Minnesota, a very congenial person. I remember that he was always puffing on his pipe. He took over my position and was KIA three weeks later when taking a direct hit from a shell. ..Kevin Wolff, April 19, 2001
(NOTE: Marvin's mother had passed away when he was 17 years old. His father re-married, but the step mother did not treat the children from his previous wife very well.)

(I am Stuart Dahl. I typed this on behalf of my uncle Clarence Amiot, for his brother Marvin Amiot.)
I am Marvin's only surviving brother. We were ten brothers and five sisters, all sisters are living (as of October 2008). One brother, Eli, died at 5 months of age.
Eight of the nine brothers served in the armed forces. Marvin and oldest brother, Lloyd, were killed in wars. Six brothers died from cancer. Marvin served in Korea and died from wounds received earlier the same day. Lloyd was killed on Iwo Jima on March, 14, 1945, while serving as a Marine. Brother Harry was a double leg amputee and lost part of a hand from injuries received during the Battle of the Bulge in Germany in 1945. Brother Bert landed at Normandy and fought in the Central Europe Campaign, Brother Dewey served in Bermuda and later fought in the liberation of the Philippines during WWII. Brother Leodore enlisted in the Army and retired after two decades as a Chief Warrant Officer. Youngest brother, Roland, served in the Army during the late 1960's & early 1970's. I enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1946 and served until 1949, by which time it had become the Air Force. I was stationed in Guam from 1948 to 1949, attaining the rank of Sergeant in the 4th Rescue Squadron.
Most of us were born at home in Gentilly, Minnesota. The family moved to Thief River Falls, Minnesota, in the spring of 1938. Our mother died in 1944 and our father re-married. Many of us left home as soon as we were old enough to work. Marvin lived alternately with brother Bert's family and sister Rosalie's family in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, before enlisting in the Army in 1951 at age 23.
Marvin was one year older than me and we did a lot together - best buds - biking, swimming, hunting, fishing, selling produce we raised, and just hanging out together. We both worked at City Dairy in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and also did some work on a gas pipeline together before we respectfully went into the service (me in 1946, Marvin in 1951).
Contact me via phone or mail with any information about Marvin, I would be very grateful ... any memories at all.
