 Additional Information
Last Known Activity:

At the end of WWII, Orville returned to his home in Northern Minnesota and began to pursue his vocation as a sheetmetal worker, a trade he trained for prior to being drafted. He married Ursula Amiot and the two of them eventually made their home in Thief River Falls, MN, raising four children.

He took a job in Southern Minnesota for a time, but returned to Thief River Falls, where he joined Brodin's, doing sheetmetal work for furnace ductwork and various other projects.  It was a short 3 block walk to Brodin's from home.

He continued to help his father on weekends on the family farm near Grygla, MN, until 1971, when his dad died.

He retired from Brodin's when he reached age 65 with over 30 years with them, and traveled the USA on a variety of trips with his in-laws. After retiring he did side work for Brodin's whenever they needed an extra hand or had a complex bending problem.

When he passed away Brodin's continued to look after the furnace repairs to his wife's (my mothers) house.

Telegram from Camp Patrick Henry, VA, Sept. 11, 1945. To Mrs. Albin Dahl, Goodridge, Minnesota. Arrived safely.

"Expect to see you soon. Don't attempt to contact or write me. Love Orville."

(I imagine the note was not intended to be curt. It had to be short due to the volume of telegrams from the very many servicemen returning at war's end. He was not expecting to be at Camp Patrick Henry for very long and would probably not be there if a letter was sent.)

Postcard to his Uncle Selmer (Sam) Dahl.

"Here is a picture of the city where we are right now. The long row of buildings that are near the bottom is a silk factory! I am checking the house we are staying in now. It really is beautiful in the City of Gorizia that you can see in the background. Write soon. Love, Orville"

Postcard (no adressee or date):

"A small city here in Italy that I have been in. We were here when the war ended in Italy, May 2, 1945."

Christmas 1942 at Camp White, OR, he received several Christmas cards from friends and relatives back home. Postage was 2 cents, some had a Christmas sticker over the envelope flap, many had a military theme, one had a hand-written note on the top-center of the envelope: "answered", most were postmarked from Goodrich, MN.

Several Valentine's Day cards, without envelopes or dates, from both men and women, were saved with the Christmas cards.
