First, I would like to thank each of you for your Military Service, and to those returning from overseas "WELCOME HOME".
My intention is to list the information I have on my father and some of my family here on the Army TWS. Both of my Great Grandfathers were GAR Civil War Veterans. My father, Dennis Loomis, and at least five of my uncles were WWII Army and Army Air Corps. My Great x4 Grandfather, Jonathan Loomis, served seven years in the Army of the Revolution from Massachusetts and fought at the battle of Bunker Hill. He served with Stevens' Company of Mass., Rossiter's Regt., and fought at the battle of Bunker Hill. That makes me both a Son of the American Revolution and S.U.V.: Sons Of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Most information on this profile page is intended as a Remembrance Profile on my Father, Dennis W. Loomis. He was born in Sherman Township (Tustin) Michigan on 29 January 1924; served U.S. Army World War II from April 1944 to January 1945; died 30 January 1992, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. His remains rest at the family plot at Burdell Cemetery, Sherman Township, Michigan, along with his parents and grandparents.
Dennis Loomis: I am still trying to piece together my father's WWII service. He graduated high school in 1942 and attempted to enlist twice which was denied because he was classified as a farmer and he owned a small dairy. However, in early 1944 he was drafted and then injured during training and spent several months recuperating a knee injury while in the San Francisco area, at General Dibble Army Hospital, Palo Alto. From Camp Roberts, Calif., he was assigned as an armed guard on prison trains hauling Japanese POWs from the west coast to internment camps such as Camp McCoy at Sparta, Wisconsin. He was given a medical discharge in January 1945. His disability was rated at 20% and lists him as Military Police because of his duties as an armed guard.

Joseph Loomis came from Essex in England to the new world in 1638 and landed at the settlement of Boston which was founded just eight years earlier in 1630. Joseph Loomis' Great-Great Grandson was Jonathan Loomis. Jonathan Loomis (American Revolution) was my Great (x4) Grandfather. Joel Loomis (Civil War) was Jonathan's Great Grandson and my Great Grandfather. Dennis Loomis was my Father, WWII. I am a direct descendant of Joseph Loomis by ten generations in America.

Stanley B. Loomis
CADILLAC -- Stanley B. Loomis of Tustin died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at his home. He was 94.
He was born on April 19, 1916 in Tustin to Harry G. and E. Grace (Burkett) Loomis, and they preceded him in death. He lived mostly all of his life in the Tustin area and graduated from Tustin High School in 1935. He had been employed at Chris Craft for eight years, and for over 40 years, he was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tustin and had served on the Sherman Township Board in various capacities for 30 years. For many years, Stan enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On Sept. 21, 1940 in Tustin, he married the former Irene Finnerty, and she survives him along with their children, Brian (Sue) Loomis of Clearwater, Fla., Keith (Sandy) Loomis of Holland, Delos (Lori) Loomis of Muskegon and Phyllis Enter of Denver, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Alger of Cadillac; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dennis and Kenneth Loomis, and sisters, Mayme Pullen and Dorothy VanDerveer.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac, with Rev. Sean Nemecek officiating. Burial will be at Burdell Township Cemetery in Tustin. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Tustin Sanctuary Improvement Fund.
